Senior Underground (UG) Engineer

Location: Abu Dhabi, UAE

Contract Length: 12-Month Renewable Contract


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (BE/B.Tech) in Civil & Structural Engineering (Master’s degree (ME/M.Tech) in Structural Engineering is preferred).

Experience:

  • Minimum 12 years of relevant experience in onshore civil and underground works with a strong technical background and practical aptitude.
  • Expertise in conceptualisation, design, and detailed engineering of underground networks, including:
    • Utility lines
    • Drainage systems
    • Cooling water systems
    • Fire water networks
    • Contaminated and non-contaminated oil networks
  • Proficiency in design and hydraulic calculations for surface drainage systems, including both gravity and liquid-filled systems.
  • Strong capability in quantity estimation for underground and general civil works, including bill of materials preparation and subcontract documentation (e.g. scope of work, price schedules, technical reports).
  • Experience in developing conceptual schematics and detailed engineering for plumbing and drainage services in buildings.
  • Skilled in managing technical interfaces with project management teams, clients, certification authorities, subcontractors, and work-share offices.
  • Familiarity with vendor interactions related to painting and coating materials, field joint materials, and isometric checking.
  • Involvement in basic, conceptual, FEED, EPC, and EPIC projects.
  • Ability to work independently and lead underground works as a UG specialist.
  • Previous experience working with international clients such as major oil & gas operators.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage underground civil and utility works, ensuring all design and engineering activities meet project specifications and international standards.
  • Conduct design and hydraulic calculations for surface drainage and underground utility networks.
  • Prepare quantity estimations, bill of materials, and subcontract documentation.
  • Develop schematic designs and detailed engineering for plumbing and drainage systems in buildings.
  • Interface with clients, certification authorities, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure alignment of underground works with overall project objectives.
  • Manage technical reviews, ensuring compliance with engineering best practices and safety standards.
  • Participate in tendering processes, preparing technical documents and evaluating contractor submissions.
