Process Safety Engineer - Permanent
The role is to provide support in the area of Process Safety Expertise to UK & Ireland. This role includes Process Safety support to all RUK plants. The incumbent will be responsible for advising the organisation on process safety related matters and provide support through skilled application / proficiency in the following Process Safety topics;
- Process Safety Concepts
- Hazard identification and risk assessment
- Hazard awareness and characterisation associated with the system being operated and product processed
- Project Management
- Management of major emergencies and emergency preparedness
- Management of change
- Management of safety critical elements (SCEs)
- Incident reporting and investigation
- Legislation and regulations (e.g. COMAH, DSEAR)
- Codes and Standards
- Audit, assurance, management review and intervention
- Human factors
- Safety leadership commitment, responsibility and workplace culture
Required key skills (functional/technical);
- Good understanding of Process Safety management elements and demonstrable level of professional competence in process safety (e.g. Hazard Identification and Risk assessment, Management of Safety Critical Elements, etc.)
- Knowledge of Health and Safety Legislation and regulations
- Knowledge of Industry Codes and Standards
- Facilitation skills (i.e. Leading technical discussions)
- Project/Programme management, planning and organisation
- Change management skills
- Lead auditor skills (i.e. Trained and competent in leading audits)
- Ability to analyse complex problems and understand probability and risk
- Good communications and interpersonal skills
- Capable of detailed investigation and analysis
- Ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams
- Knowledge of process plant technology and unit operations for the industrial gas industry
- Proficient in PFD and P&ID interpretation
- Required qualifications/experience
- Degree qualified, preferably in Chemical or Process Engineering or equivalent
- 8 year’s practical industrial experience (post graduate scheme or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, preferably in a process industry operating under COMAH regulations
- Experience in the submission of COMAH reports
- Chartered member of the IChemE (or other accrediting body) or actively working towards.
- Track record of effective performance in a ‘matrix management’ environment
