Role Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Diving Specialist to play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient execution of offshore diving operations. This position is critical in supporting risk owners and ensuring that all diving activities comply with relevant legislation, industry standards, and best practices.
The role involves overseeing diving operations from planning through execution, ensuring safety, quality, and compliance at all stages. This is a hands-on role that requires both onshore and offshore engagement, including site visits and direct interactions with contractors and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
General Responsibilities:
- Act as a subject matter expert, providing technical advice and support on all aspects of diving safety and operations.
- Ensure diving activities comply with national legislation, industry guidelines, and company standards.
- Identify and mitigate risks, ensuring that operations are carried out as safely as possible.
- Support the development and review of diving project plans, ensuring all necessary procedures and risk assessments are in place.
- Conduct reviews of diving equipment maintenance and ensure compliance with planned maintenance systems.
- Verify that diving teams are appropriately qualified and hold the necessary certifications and training for their tasks.
- Engage with relevant authorities where required to secure permits for offshore diving operations.
Operational Tasks:
- Oversee diving operations throughout key project phases, including tendering, pre-mobilisation, execution, and close-out.
- Monitor dive logs daily and review subsea video recordings for health, safety, and quality compliance.
- Ensure that contractors are capable of emergency diver recovery and that recovery exercises have been successfully completed.
- Participate in project risk assessments (HIRA) and liaise with contractors to ensure all diving health and safety (HSE) requirements are met.
- Conduct site visits to vessels and subcontractor premises to ensure compliance with safety and operational standards.
- Investigate any diving-related incidents, accidents, or near misses and contribute to learning and continuous improvement processes.
- Ensure lessons learned from each project phase are documented and incorporated into future operations.
Key Deliverables:
- Expert support to project teams and risk owners across all project phases.
- Compliance assurance with diving regulations, industry standards, and company policies.
- Incident investigation, reporting, and implementation of corrective actions.
- Stakeholder engagement, including contractors, regulatory bodies, and offshore teams.
- Regular site and vessel visits to oversee operations and ensure best practices are followed.
Qualifications & Experience:
- IMCA Air or Saturation Diving Supervisor or IMCA Auditor certification.
- Minimum 15 years of diving management experience within the offshore energy sector (renewables or oil & gas).
- Thorough understanding of IMCA Approved Codes of Practice (ACOPs).
- Strong technical expertise in subsea installations, cable interventions, and inspection work.
- Minimum 3 years of recent experience as a Diving Advisor or Diving Operations Manager.
- Comprehensive knowledge of underwater inspection and construction techniques.
- Up-to-date knowledge of IMCA guidelines, IOGP diving recommended practices, and relevant national regulations (e.g., UK HSE ACOP, IMO standards).
