Job Overview
The Secondary Design Engineer will support the detailed design and documentation of secondary systems for substations. This role requires expertise in creating precise designs for protection and control schematics, wiring diagrams, and other critical documentation, using drafting tools such as AutoCAD or MicroStation. Experience with electrical analysis software like DIGSILENT, ETAP, and SKM is highly advantageous for contributing to the quality and reliability of the design process. The engineer will work as part of a collaborative team to deliver high-quality designs that meet project specifications and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Substation Secondary Detailed Design: Create and review detailed designs for secondary systems in substations, ensuring adherence to client specifications and industry standards. Prepare accurate protection and control schematics, wiring diagrams, and configurations.

  • Drafting and Design Tools: Use AutoCAD or MicroStation to produce high-quality, consistent design documents. Ensure that designs are clear, accurate, and fully aligned with project requirements.

  • Electrical Analysis Software: Apply knowledge in software such as DIGSILENT, ETAP, and SKM to support design calculations and system reliability assessments, enhancing the effectiveness of secondary system designs.

  • Quality Control and Compliance: Ensure all designs comply with local, national, and international codes and standards. Perform thorough checks and quality reviews on all technical documentation.

  • Project Team Collaboration: Work closely with other engineering teams, including primary design, project management, and protection engineering, to coordinate and integrate secondary designs with overall substation projects.

  • Technical Documentation: Prepare detailed documentation, including design reports, configuration records, and schematics, to maintain clarity and accuracy throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.

  • Experience:

    • Prior experience in substation secondary design engineering.
    • Experience in drafting and design, ideally within power systems or substations.
  • Technical Skills:

    • Proficiency in drafting software such as AutoCAD and MicroStation.
    • Familiarity with electrical analysis software like DIGSILENT, ETAP, and SKM is a strong advantage.
  • Competencies:

    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in design work.
    • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Effective communication skills for collaboration across project teams.
