Job Overview
The Protection Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the safety, reliability, and efficiency of electrical systems through comprehensive protection studies and system analyses. This role requires expertise in load flow, short circuit, protection setting, and arc flash studies, with a strong proficiency in DIGSILENT PowerFactory software. The engineer will design and implement protection schemes, conduct system analyses, and support project teams with technical expertise to meet regulatory standards and project specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Protection Studies and Analysis: Perform detailed load flow, short circuit, protection setting, and arc flash studies to support safe and efficient system operation. Analyze results to provide recommendations and solutions that enhance system stability and protection.

  • Protection Scheme Design: Design, review, and optimize protection schemes for electrical systems, ensuring reliability and safety. This includes selecting appropriate protective devices, setting configurations, and validating system integrity.

  • System Modeling and Simulation: Utilize DIGSILENT PowerFactory to create accurate system models, perform simulations, and analyze the impact of potential faults, operational changes, and protective measures on system performance.

  • Regulatory Compliance and Standards: Ensure all protection designs comply with industry codes and standards, as well as local and international regulatory requirements. Document design and analysis processes for compliance purposes.

  • Collaboration with Project Teams: Work closely with project teams, including electrical engineers, project managers, and field personnel, to integrate protection schemes seamlessly with broader project goals and schedules.

  • Technical Documentation: Prepare clear and comprehensive documentation, including reports on protection settings, system studies, and analysis results, ensuring accuracy and accessibility for future reference.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.

  • Experience:

    • Proven experience in power system protection engineering, with hands-on work in protection studies.
    • Familiarity with electrical system analysis and protection design, ideally within utility or industrial environments.
  • Technical Skills:

    • Proficiency in conducting load flow, short circuit, protection setting, and arc flash studies.
    • Strong expertise in using DIGSILENT PowerFactory software for system modeling and analysis.
  • Competencies:

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for complex electrical protection systems.
    • High attention to detail, especially in documentation and compliance verification.
    • Effective communication skills for collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.
