Role Purpose:

To independently define, design, and deliver fire protection system deliverables for assigned projects, which may include construction, commissioning, and offshore assignments. The role involves ensuring compliance with technical requirements, timelines, and budgets, as well as resolving project issues independently.

Responsibilities:

  • Understands project-specific requirements, industry standards, classification society regulations, and regulatory requirements for fire protection systems across construction, commissioning, and offshore phases.

  • Develops design philosophies and engineering specifications, including PFD and P&ID drawings for fire water pump systems, fire water networks, deluge systems, foam systems, and gaseous fire fighting systems. Prepares shadow drawings for firewater and foam systems, fire protection system layouts (hydrant, monitor, hose reel, deluge system, extinguisher, and fire & gas devices), passive fire protection zone diagrams, equipment data sheets, fire water demand calculations, hydraulic calculations, and equipment sizing. Validates these with the Lead Engineer.

  • Independently evaluates fire protection aspects of bids received from various suppliers, conducting technical bid evaluations to ensure vendors meet technical and engineering requirements. Provides assessments in consultation with the Lead Engineer to the Package Engineer.

  • Prepares technical reports, such as fire water demand and hydraulic calculations, line lists, set point lists, and fire & gas system cause and effect charts.

  • Develops solutions to technical or engineering problems through analysis, interpretation of data, and evaluation of options, leveraging experience, precedents, and professional references.

  • Participates in safety meetings, explains the fire protection system to committees, and ensures timely closure of observations and recommendations.

  • Attends stakeholder meetings (clients, suppliers, subcontractors, classification societies), reviews documents, addresses execution issues, and escalates matters when necessary to ensure project progress.

  • Provides technical and engineering support to construction and commissioning teams on-site, troubleshooting and offering solutions. Provides off-site support when required.

  • Captures lessons learned, enters them into the lessons learned system, and closes out project-related actions.

  • Guides junior engineers in the fire protection discipline.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in chemical or mechanical engineering. Alternatively, a diploma in engineering with significant relevant experience.

  • Minimum 7 years of relevant fire protection engineering experience in the oil and gas sector for graduates, or at least 12 years for diploma holders. For those with a master's degree, a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.

  • Experience working for an engineering company or EPC contractor is required.

  • Familiarity with industry standards such as NFPA and API, classification society codes (e.g., ABS, DNV), and company standards, specifications, and procedures in fire protection systems.
