Principal Civil Engineer

Location: Perth, Australia

Employment Type: 12-month contract

We are currently seeking a Principal Civil Engineer to join our Perth-based Engineering Team and lead civil and structural engineering efforts on an onshore project.

Role Overview

The Principal Civil Engineer will be responsible for leading engineering teams across multiple locations and executing civil and structural engineering work. This role requires both technical expertise and leadership capabilities, ensuring project execution within scope, schedule, and budget.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Engineering Execution

  • Act as lead civil/structural engineer for the assigned scope.
  • Supervise engineers and designers as per the project structure.
  • Develop and maintain work schedules, ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery.
  • Interface with clients, vendors, consultants, and multidisciplinary teams.

Technical & Design Execution

  • Perform hands-on civil/structural design and calculations.
  • Develop engineering deliverables such as drawings, specifications, and reports.
  • Conduct technical reviews of analyses, calculations, drawings, and reports.
  • Provide guidance to structural designers to ensure high-quality drawings.

Resource & Change Management

  • Define resource requirements for both engineering and drafting teams.
  • Identify and manage scope changes, ensuring alignment with project needs.
  • Maintain commercial awareness to optimize costs and resources.

 

Key Qualifications & Experience

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Active RPEQ certification (Civil/Structural Engineering).

Technical Expertise

  • 15+ years of experience in civil and structural engineering.
  • Proven experience in site preparation, excavation plans, road design, pavement design, drainage design, and underground infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in reinforced concrete (RC) and steel design.
  • Experience in wastewater management (preferred).
  • Expertise in technical documentation, specifications, and calculations.
  • Advanced knowledge of civil and structural software packages.
  • Excellent written English for preparing technical reports.

Leadership & Communication

  • Experience leading engineering and design teams.
  • Ability to mentor junior engineers and optimize team performance.
  • Strong communication skills for client/vendor engagements and technical reviews.
