Mechanical Design/Hardware Engineer - Defence & Electronics Industry
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Design/Hardware Engineer to support a key defence project based in Christchurch, UK. This role requires a presence in the office three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) and falls inside IR35.
Contract Details:
- Duration: Until 31st August 2025 (with potential extension)
- Working Hours: 37 hours per week (7.4 hours per day)
- Clearance Requirements: SC clearance is highly desirable. Candidates without SC clearance must be eligible for BPSS and must be UK nationals born in the UK due to project requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop packaging and mounting arrangements for COTS items.
- Create electro-mechanical assembly designs.
- Produce part and GA drawings.
- Conduct peer reviews and design-for-manufacture assessments.
- Develop cable routing in 3D CAD.
- Generate cable/harness assemblies and associated drawings.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Qualification in mechanical engineering (Degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent).
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a mechanical design engineer.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD software (such as Siemens NX or SolidWorks).
- Knowledge of design and engineering principles and best practices.
- Experience in designing sheet metal, machined parts, and assemblies.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with cable routing and management.
Desirable Experience:
- Basic understanding of electronics.
- Experience with FEA and CFD simulations.
- Familiarity with EMC compliance design.
- Experience designing for military applications.
