Lead Piping Engineer – LNG FEED Project
Location: Surrey, UK (Office-Based, 5 Days per Week)
Contract Duration: 12 Months

About the Role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly skilled Lead Piping Engineer to join a dynamic team working on a significant LNG FEED project. In this role, you will be responsible for leading the FEED and Detail Design teams for the expansion of an onshore plant. Your expertise in piping design, plant layout, and managing both brownfield and greenfield modifications will be pivotal in ensuring the successful delivery of the project.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop detailed 3D CAD models for equipment and piping layouts within process and utility areas, ensuring designs are fit for purpose.
- Ensure all layouts account for critical factors such as operational access, mechanical handling, egress, structural requirements, foundations, and underground services.
- Establish clear work processes and design guidelines for the piping team, effectively managing cross-discipline interfaces.
- Provide leadership and guidance to Area Lead Piping Designers, overseeing the development and review of piping layouts.
- Review and approve designs related to equipment, pipework, and civil interfaces, ensuring compliance with project specifications.
- Integrate pipe stress and support requirements into piping layouts, ensuring they meet operational and safety standards.
- Lead multi-discipline project document reviews and participate in model reviews to ensure cross-team alignment and quality.
- Oversee scope management, ensuring the project stays on track with regard to budget and schedule commitments.
- Coordinate design activities with teams across Structural, Civil, Mechanical, Safety, and Process disciplines.
- Represent the piping discipline in client model reviews and ensure deliverables meet agreed timelines and standards.
- Support the production, checking, and approval of piping deliverables.
Key Requirements:
- Extensive experience in Piping Design and Onshore Plant Layout, ideally within an oil and gas or energy-related industry.
- Proven expertise in managing brownfield applications, including site surveys, tie-ins, and CAD modelling of new and existing pipework systems.
- Strong leadership experience, with a background in plant layout and piping design, ideally having worked in an Area Lead capacity.
- In-depth understanding of pipe stress engineering, pipe support design, and tie-in locations.
- High proficiency in 3D CAD modelling tools (experience with Hexagon S3D would be advantageous).
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively engage in design reviews and liaise with stakeholders.
Desirable:
- Experience using MicroStation for drawing updates or drawing interpretation.
- Familiarity with international industry standards, including those used in large-scale LNG or oil & gas projects.
- An engineering degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Chartered status would be advantageous.
