Job Title: Downstream Risk Engineer (Process Safety / Operations Engineer)

Job Overview:

We have exciting new opportunities for Downstream Risk Engineers to work with leading Global Insurance companies that have recently been awarded significant new projects. These roles are based in Oman and are ideal for experienced professionals looking to apply their expertise in risk assessment and management within the oil and gas sector.

 

Qualifications:

  • Academic/Professional: A relevant first degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
  • Experience: 10 - 15 years of experience in Refinery, Chemical, Petrochemical, COMAH, or Hydrogen sectors. Prior experience as a Survey Risk Engineer in Insurance or related companies is essential. Candidates with experience in the Oil and Gas industry will have an added advantage.
  • Degree: Chemical Engineering (preferred).

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct risk assessments to identify risk characteristics, evaluate conditions, and assess safety measures implemented by clients to aid in accurate risk pricing.
  • Investigate significant failures to determine the responsibility of different parties involved.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance the risk selection and assignment processes, improving efficiency and timeliness based on various risk characteristics and locations.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and implement alternative survey processes, including virtual surveys, to assess potential risks to employees, visitors, and customers.
  • Identify and recommend improvements to the virtual survey process, tools, and technology.
  • Work with management to implement changes that ensure maximum efficiency and quality while minimizing costs.
  • Develop and structure risk management solutions for clients and potential clients.

 

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong working knowledge of risk management, risk management solutions, maintenance, and Health & Safety practices.
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written) for explaining complex ideas to diverse audiences.
  • Analytical and strategic planning skills with a good understanding of financial statement analysis and reporting.
  • Strong selling and relationship management capabilities.
  • Good knowledge of relevant regulatory frameworks and the regulatory environment.
  • Attention to detail, strong problem-solving abilities, and commercial awareness.
  • Diplomacy, negotiation skills, and strong time management abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.
