Role Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly skilled Deputy Logistics Manager to take a leading role in overseeing and optimising logistics operations for large-scale engineering projects. This position is critical in ensuring the seamless movement of materials and equipment while driving supply chain efficiency, cost management, and risk mitigation.
The successful candidate will work closely with internal teams and external partners to develop logistics strategies, manage international transportation, and ensure compliance with customs regulations, all while maintaining project schedules and optimising operational performance.
Key Responsibilities
Logistics Strategy & Execution
- Develop and implement logistics strategies aligned with project requirements.
- Optimise transportation methods, routes, and supply chain processes to enhance efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
Supply Chain Management
- Oversee procurement, storage, and distribution of materials and equipment.
- Streamline logistics processes to ensure smooth project execution and minimal delays.
Transportation & Customs Compliance
- Manage international transportation and ensure full compliance with customs regulations.
- Liaise with customs authorities and logistics providers to facilitate efficient clearance procedures.
Project Schedule & Coordination
- Align logistics timelines with project schedules, proactively addressing any potential disruptions.
- Implement contingency plans to mitigate risks and maintain project continuity.
Risk & Compliance Management
- Identify and mitigate risks associated with logistics operations.
- Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
Cost Optimisation & Budget Control
- Manage logistics budgets, control expenditures, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Negotiate competitive terms with suppliers, vendors, and logistics service providers.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead and mentor the logistics team, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
- Promote collaboration across departments to enhance operational efficiency.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as the key liaison between logistics, procurement, engineering, and project management teams.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, transport providers, and regulatory authorities.
Quality Assurance & Performance Monitoring
- Implement quality control measures to improve logistics processes and efficiency.
- Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for continuous improvement.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Project Management: Strong ability to oversee logistics operations within complex engineering projects.
- Supply Chain Optimisation: Expertise in procurement, inventory control, and logistics efficiency strategies.
- Regulatory Compliance: In-depth knowledge of international trade, customs procedures, and logistics regulations.
- Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with logistics management systems, transportation methods, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Leadership & Team Development: Proven experience in leading and mentoring logistics teams.
- Problem-Solving: Analytical mindset to identify and resolve logistics challenges effectively.
- Communication & Negotiation: Strong interpersonal skills to engage with internal teams, suppliers, and external stakeholders.
- IT & Data Analysis: Proficiency in logistics software, data analysis, and reporting tools.
Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum 15 years of experience in logistics, including shipping and freight forwarding.
- At least 5 years of experience managing logistics for large-scale projects within an EPC environment.
- Strong understanding of international trade regulations, customs procedures, and supply chain best practices.
